Broadening My Innocence

Epilogue: A Little Writing

Well, as it turned out, I did use up my writing pad. I filled it up with notes. I started reading through them once I was home. I realized that if I wanted to use them, I would have to start putting them into the computer right away. I could only figure out my handwriting because I remembered what I was writing about. Every paragraph was unintelligible until I figured out the topic. Then I could make out the words. It is still the same as I come to the end. I still don’t know if I am reading or remembering writing. Perhaps it is a combination of the two.

Mostly, I am writing from memory with my notes to refresh my memory. If I’ve gotten old, it’s not in my ability to see the funny stuff that happens to me. It’s that I don’t really remember it all. The only thing different here was that my old letters inspired me to take note of it, literally. The notes help me remember how and when things happened. Plenty of funny stuff happens to us all the time. I just don’t take good notes most days.

Of course, getting it all into the computer has been something like work. Very little funny stuff happens at a computer keyboard. If anything unexpected happens with a computer, it usually isn’t very funny. Not if it lose a lot of work. Now if I had bought that fancy new Sony Viao before the trip, I might have done some of this typing on the road, but my old Toshiba still has a couple more books it it.

I don’t know if I’m going to actually publish this except to Rebecca and my families. I especially want Rebecca’s mom, Mickie, to read it. Mickie love to read. We’ve been trying to get her interested in traveling with us, but she’s afraid to fly. I am hoping to inspire her to go on the road with Rebecca and I by making it sound like fun. I am trying to get it done before the memory fades.

I am also working on another book The Art of Marketing. I committed to publish it in December. We are already getting orders for that book. I don’t know if this one will interest anyone but my family and friends. As I have been writing it, I’ve put it up on the Internet to see if anyone is interested. I plan to publicize it a little so people can find it and see what they say.

So far I’ve gotten a few reviews from the immediate family. Michele and Rebecca both think its entertaining. They both claim to be anxious to read more. So, I guess I haven’t change as much as I’d feared.

My daughter Amanda read the title on line, but didn’t understand it. Originally, it started as a play on the title of Mark Twain’s An Innocent Abroad, a similar book about touring Europe.

All I can say is that writing it was a lot more fun that writing my normal books. I hope someone does read it and want to buy it so I can do another. Writing this make me feel a lot more like myself again.

The End
